The Ythan Project

Actions

The project aimed to involve local people in protecting and enhancing the river in a number of ways, which are listed below:

• assisting farmers to undertake nutrient budgets on their farms, helping to reduce the risk of losing nutrients through leaching into watercourses.
  
• assisting farmers to apply to agri-environment schemes to enable them to create wildlife habitats on their farm, including strips of un-cropped land alongside the river.
  
• producing water management plans for farmers to demontsrate how they can protect the water resources on their farm
  
• undertaking river restoration actions at various sites around the catchment
  
• undertaking further monitoring and survey work to learn more about the river and the estuary
  
• education and awareness raising activities with young people and children
